Summer isn’t quite over yet, but we’ll have the first pumpkin sightings starting this weekend. You know what that means…. before long, it will be turkeys and cornucopias, followed by Christmas trees and Hanukah menorahs. I kid you not! If you thought summer passed in the blink of an eye, wait until the onset of the fall season – that’s when time truly begins to fly. This time of year always reminds me of the start of a roller coaster ride. Join volunteers at Seaside Heroes Park for the monthly Community Beautification Event on Saturday, September 14 from 8 to 11 a.m. All are welcome to get down and dirty and lend a hand cleaning, weeding, and dead heading – including groups or individuals who need community service hours. Even though the park is small, it’s a huge job to keep it looking good. As of January 2019, volunteers have put over 1300 work hours into the project. Anticipation met with excitement this past week when the team from LACMA helped to install the Garden’s newest exhibit Hide and Seek: Art Meets Nature, works from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art at South Coast Botanic Garden. The project represents a pivotal moment for the Garden and for LACMA, as the art museum packs up its galleries for a major renovation project and the Garden opens its gates to a selection of notable works for long-term display. The sculptures will be placed in the back 40 acres as a compliment to the two permanent sculptures already on display in the formal collection areas.
